Stupid Mud

It's been over SIX weeks since I sprained my ankle, and yet I decided to play the last kickball game of the season after flash flooding on saturday. Good news, that game got cancelled. What a sight. We drove out to Hindman Park to play and the park literally had a river running through it. The field was a little muddy, but there was part of the road that was under over a foot of water. There was white-water! If I had a canoe I'd say class 3 rapids.
Cancelled or so we thought...
After a brief stop at a nearby gas station we got a call that the game was back on at Interstate Park 2. We zipped on over to much more favorable conditions, though still very muddy. We fielded first getting three outs after only letting 3 or 4 runs. I walked to the home plate as I was first up to kick. I smacked a fast grounder towards left field and got on 1st base. Jennifer was up next after me. After a foul she hit a good grounder that got me to second. I can't remember who was next, but I ran to third knowing I had to stop at the plate because the ball was coming my way. I thought I might slip a little in the mud so I stopped a few inches short of the plate thinking I would slide those extra inches and be set. Instead my right foot stopped in a small depression in the mud sending my weight over with my momentum from the run. I heard a pop and immediately hit the ground and started yelling profanities as I realized I just re-sprained my almost-healed ankle. After rolling around in the mud and fighting the urge to vomit I continued to breathe and got some help up. I watched the rest of the game cheering our team and heckling the other, knowing I had a long recovery ahead of me. I'm pretty pissed. And still a little nauseous.

So do you think I should create yet another blog just for photography? It seems like i'm shooting more video and photography these days, and unlike video photos are much easier to post, manipulate and share. Not to mention smaller in file size. i think i'll start a photeo page, or maybe a voto. Yeah, a voto page, cuz in german 'v' is pronounced like an 'f'. i'll have to come up with a better blog system that works for image and video, however. Oh, and I'll only do this if two people leave comments (two people unrelated to me). this way i'll at least know that others will be watching. oh, and i'll include my PayPal info so people can pay me for prints if they want 'em. sweet.

Nine Inch Nails

Okay tip #138: don't go in front of the stage and jump around in the mosh pit at a Nine Inch Nails concert a few days after you sprained your ankle. Although fun at times, the likelyhood of getting home without someone stepping on your ankle is slim. For me everything was fine until the last song. Some guy stepped on my ankle, twice. Let's hear it for ibuprofen!

The image is from my crappy V710. I don't really care about a camera on my phone, but when I use it I'd like for it to be at least quasi good. That's a shot on about song 2 or 3 when Trent was leaning back takin' a breather between beltin' out lyrics. It was an awesome concert no matter how short. It was also a new experience to be so close to the stage. I'm usually the "sit in the seat and watch with binoculars guy." I now know the pros and cons of moshing.

Battlestar Galactica - Did they Frak-up?

Since we now have to wait until October to see anything from the third season, I thought I'd start a blog about BSG.

Also Known As Dada

I'm a total Eediot (said with pure Ren flair). I may have know this beofre, but last night I just realizes that aka or AKA stood for "also know as." I think when I was in kindergarten someone said AKA was an alias for your real name. I didn't know what an alias was at that time, but I think it stuck in my head. I don't know why this suddenly came to me in a moment of clarity last night, but I found it quite disturbing. It is possible that I have known all along and was just not articulating it, but really how many people ever spell out also known as? People use ASAP all the time, so much that it has become a word itself, but they still spell it out sometimes. Well back to work.

48 Hour Film Project 2005

I'm not positive yet as to whether I will be involved in this year's 48 Hour Film Project or not, but I had a lot of fun last year. We called our film Peripetia. A full 7 minutes of action and great original music. I don't think we won any awards, but I liked it for it's re-watchability. And hey, it was done in 48 hours! I hope we can get a good crew together this year and come up with some good ideas that really blow the competition out of the water.

The $600 Equipment Manager

I'd like to hear from all the equipment managers that made over $600. Let's see... if the average hourly wage of an equipment manager was/is say $5.25, and they work for an average of say 8 hours a week that would be $42. But don't forget Uncle Sam takes about 33% of that so more like $28 a week. Let's be generous and say $30. Doing simple math that means you'd never make it to $600 in a semester, unless you had an accident. That's right, in the Fall semester of 1996 David Rasmussen had an accident... a terrible accident. He lost his arm in that accident. But they said they didn't care what the cost, they had to rebuild him. The University approved an expense of $600 to make David Rasmussen better, stronger, faster. Who authorized this is not important, but it was just in the nick of time because little did Rasmussen know but he would have to save the country's largest cities from the arch villain Dr. Redfox.
